OUR AMAZING WEEK OF #FREEDOMWALK2026 ACTIVITIES BEGINS WITH "ROOTED WISDOM: THE ROLE OF NATURE IN THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD" AT 10:30AM ON SUNDAY, MAY 24, AND CONTINUES WITH:

MAY 27, 2026 AT 4PM: THE ROLE OF LOCAL CHURCHES IN THE ANTI-SLAVERY MOVEMENT
In celebration of #FreedomWalk2026, we will gather at the Poughkeepsie Family Partnership Center parking lot on Wednesday, May 27, at 4pm, across from the Partnership Center at 29 North Hamilton St, for a walk which highlighting the places of worship and people that were influential in the anti-slavery movement, including Smith Metropolitan AME Zion Church, the First Congregational Church and Second Baptist Church. The rain plan is to meet at the Fellowship at 5 for an alternate program.
This walk is part of #FreedomWalk2026 is a modern-day retracing of the Underground Railroad celebrating the 30th anniversary of Historian Anthony Michael Cohen’s inaugural journey of the same route. We are excited that Poughkeepsie was chosen as one of only ten cities where Tony and his team will establish their base of operations!
#FreedomWalk2026 envisions a nation where America’s unfinished story is completed to form a more just and perfect union. Uniting the past and present we seek to re-ignite the ideals of “We the People,” sparking inspiration for future generations to secure equity, justice, and liberation for all.

MAY 29, 2026 AT 3:45PM: RIVERWALK TO FREEDOM
Please join us at the Celebrating the African Spirit memorial in Waryas Park for this walk highlighting the history of the anti-slavery movement and influential leaders in our area. We'll start at the CAS memorial, then walk to Upper Landing Park and cross the Walkway Over the Hudson, ending at the Sojourner Truth statue. We will be joined on the journey by Harriet Tubman and Sojourner herself.

The community is joyously invited to celebrate this historic journey with Anthony Michael Cohen and the #FreedomWalk2026 Team on Sunday, May 31, from 12 to 3pm at the Family Partnership Center, 29 North Hamilton Street, Poughkeepie, NY.
This event, with an opening reception/open house with refreshments from 12 to 1, and a program following the reception, will honor the courage, hope, faith and unity that shaped this pivotal chapter in American history with blessing, music, reflections, remarks from Mayor Yvonne Flowers and Tony Cohen himself.
#FreedomWalk2026 is a modern-day retracing of the Underground Railroad on the 30th anniversary of Tony Cohen’s 1996 walk and to commemorate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. Poughkeepsie was chosen as one of only ten cities on the 750-mile journey that Tony and his team will use as their base of operations.
#FreedomWalk2026 envisions a nation where America’s unfinished story is completed to form a more just and perfect union. Uniting the past and present we seek to re-ignite the ideals of “We the People,” sparking inspiration for future generations to secure equity, justice, and liberation for all.

WEDNESDAYS, 1-3PM, ON ZOOM: SILVER PENS
On Wednesdays from 1-3 pm, a small informal group meets on Zoom. We each share a short essay we've written during the previous week. Then we give out a few suggested topic prompts for the following week. Writers are mostly but not all UUFP members. All are welcome.

Speaking of Books is the Fellowship's non-fiction book club. We meet the first Friday (mostly) of the month at 7PM at the Fellowship. We choose our own books month to month.
Our March book is: "My Father’s Paradise: A Son’s Search for His Jewish Past in Kurdish Iraq" by Ariel Sabar. There are plenty of copies in the Library System

APRIL 12, APRIL 26: GATHERING OF THE ELDERS

A meeting for conversation about topics of interest to elders of all ages, young-at-heart, curious, and multi-directional-looking. We enjoy diverse points of view and varied life experiences. The group meets on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at 12 Noon – 1:30ish after service.
